Shovel Point- Silver Bay, MN

The perfect engagement that almost wasn't!  When Becky and I first started talking engagement we looked at rings in the mall stores, local shops, and online.  The top 3 were all online so she bookmarked them on the computer and the rest was up to me.

So I order the number one choice, with the understanding from the jeweler that it would be in my possession with plenty of time left for me to bring it with me to Minnesota and propose in one of my favorite spots in the whole world, Shovel Point. So I get my confirmation number, set up someone to sign for it (thanks Robyn!) and everything should be good right?  Not even close.  Two days before we leave on the trip and still no ring.  I start trying to get in touch with the jeweler, no luck.  I get in touch with FedEx, and they don't even have the ring in their possession!  So now I’m getting nervous, and grouchy (sorry sweetie!!!!).  The next day at work I start sending very angry emails, keep in mind we're leaving the next day.  After many emails back and forth with the jeweler, and me explaining the situation and that I didn't care if she was in or anywhere else, I needed this ring!  She could get it to me the day after we left if that was ok....  So I am now really grouchy!

As usual, Mom saves the day.  She suggested having it sent to the campground we were staying the following week.  Fast forward to Saturday morning, Mom calls and has the ring!  YAY!  I breathed a HUGE sigh of relief.

Monday comes; we're staying at my parent’s camper in Two Harbors.  I suggest a little trip up the shore of Lake Superior to go to a few state parks, read some books, and relax.  With great stealth I dig the ring out from my mom's hiding spot, put it in the pocket of my shorts and off we go.  We picked up some snacks, took our books and blanket and headed for Tettegouche State Park .  It's an absolutely perfect day, 73 degrees, nice breeze off the lake, and not a cloud in the sky.  We hike out onto Shovel point, find the perfect spot on the rocks and lay out our blanket and start reading.

After half an hour or so, Becky commented on how we were the only ones around.  Perfect.  I looked around and she was right so I asked her to stand up.  She looked at me with her "you're joking right?" look.  I asked again and promised it would be worth while.  So she put her book down and stood up, I got down on one knee, pulled the ring out of my pocket and asked her to marry me.  And she said yes!
